Strategic + Social Design

My experience and expertise spans the fields of Service Design, Social Design, Strategic Design, Industrial Design and Visual Communication. Over a period of 5 years I worked as a strategic and social designer at the UTS Design Innovation Research Centre (DI:rc). At DI:rc I used design as a tool to promote positive social change. I am currently working as a freelance designer, applying the skills I learned over that time. I am passionate about seeking to create playful ways to build emotional intelligence and resilience through design. I have experience working with a broad cross-section of organisations including Legal Aid NSW, Youth Justice, NSW Local Health Districts, UTS Respect.Now.Always., the Office of Responsible Gambling, NSW Government, the Australian Defence Force and Primary Care and Community Services.

Sadly, DI:rc was discontinued at the end of 2021. Click here to learn more about the centre and the work we did.

This video gives an insight into how we used design at DI:rc to tackle crime and social problems in our community through our long running initiative Designing Out Crime between the University of Technology Sydney and the NSW Department of Justice.

A project worth noting that I have worked on is the Respect.Now.Always. program at UTS. This project is a whole of community campaign for sexual violence prevention at UTS. It focuses on using human-centred design and a participatory approach to create sustainable cultural change. In 2020 our design work on this project was awarded the Good Design Australia Best In Class award in the Social Impact category, an accolade we are incredibly excited by and proud of.
