Walkit

WALKIT is a rehabilitative walking brace for ankle and foot injuries in children, and was designed in 2011 for my major project. It was designed in response to a brief that was created as a result of extensive research conducted into the area of physiotherapy rehabilitation in ankle and foot injuries in the first half of 2011. WALKIT was published in the 2011 Anno Books publication, and a link to this can be found on the About page. WALKIT was also selected to be showcased as part of the James Dyson Award exhibition at the Australian Design Awards Gala Evening in Sydney in July 2012.

The WALKIT Rehabilitative Children’s Walking Brace fills the need in the market for an affordable and readily available walking brace for ankle and foot injuries in children. It combines a high level of function and performance with an affordable price, and is available in 3 different sizes to fit 5 – 13 year olds. Through the use of an integrated controlled range of movement ankle hinge and a memory foam soft lining, the brace is adjustable and adaptable to the limb throughout the healing process. Its flat-pack nature makes it easily accessible for the patient, and helps to significantly reduce the overall cost. The WALKIT Brace comes with a range of different coloured front panels that can be mixed and matched, allowing the child to customise the brace as often as they like.
